CERT is Looking for New Recruits for September!

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

-Are you interested in first aid or medicine?

-Do you want to be trained and certified as a Medical First Responder?

-Do you want to give back to the campus community through volunteering?

We are looking for new members to add to our passionate team. The Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a service provided by the SA which responds to medical emergencies on campus. We are trained by St. John Ambulance as Advanced Medical First Responders and are trained in administering oxygen, automated external defibrillation, taking advanced sets of vitals such as blood pressure and auscultation, and advanced techniques such as spinal collaring, back boarding, car-extrication, emergency traction splinting,  inserting oral and nasopharyngeal airways and V-Vac suctioning.

Candidates are asked to have their standard first aid, as well as HCP or CPR-C certifications, before you are actually accepted to the team.

TO JOIN:
  1. You must attend at least one information session and fill out an application to be considered for the team.

    INFORMATION SESSIONS:

Session locations are still to be determined. The dates are as follows:

    -Monday, Sept. 13th 1-2pm

    -Wednesday, Sept.  15th 2-3pm

    -Tuesday, Sept.  21st 11-12pm

    -Thursday, Sept.  23rd 10-11am

  2. You must complete an interview. The interview might test your basic response skills in either a verbal or practical emergency scenario. In the practical scenario we aren’t necessarily testing your first aid skills, but rather we are observing how you would react in stressful situations.

  3. You must be committed to a 2 weekend AMFR course. The dates are final and you must absolutely be available and present for:

    -Friday, Oct. 22nd 6-10pm
    -Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 23rd & 24th  8am-6:30pm

    -Friday, Oct. 29th 6-10pm
    - Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 30th & 31st  8am-6:30pm
